Water Testing

Water testing presents a viable option to homeowners and building managers to ensure the safety of their drinking water. What’s in your drinking water?

Contaminated Drinking Water in NJ

Water Testing-For-Drinking-WaterThis week, breaking news hit the newsstands about “Extensive Contamination of NJ Water“. The article explains that five large companies are allegedly responsible for discharging PFAS chemicals (polyfluoroalkyl and perfluoroalkyl). Basically, they contaminated our water supply. The CDC presents data that links the two chemicals (collectively PFAS) to a number of health concerns including cancer.

This concerns a massive amount of New Jerseyans. Yes, the NJDEP plans to hold the five companies financially responsible. But thousands of New Jersey residents remain exposed to PFAS in their drinking water as this all gets sorted out. Furthermore, they are not clear on exactly who may be impacted by the contamination. In addition, the EWG (Environmental Working Group) reports that “one in five New Jerseyans are delivered tap water that contains at least trace amounts of a chemical linked to cancer and low birth weights.” (See the list below for the locations of large NJ utilities with the most violations.)

Is Bottled Water Healthier than Tap Water?

So, you may be thinking of switching to bottled water. But, to complicate matters even more, we know that drinking bottled water is not necessarily a healthier option. Surprisingly, Food & Water Watch reports:

“more than half of bottled water actually comes from tap water!”

Yet, we as consumers are led to believe that bottled water is clean drinking water. As a result, we spend up to 2000 times the cost of tap water for a false sense of security.

A Water Filter and Water Testing is the Answer to Your Drinking Water Concerns

So far, we know that tap water supply may or may not be safe to drink. And, bottled water costs many times more than tap water. Yet, it provides no assurance that it is clean drinking water. Then what is the answer? It is our opinion that the below steps are the best way to ensure your family is drinking the cleanest, healthiest water possible. And you don’t have to spend a fortune.

  1. Invest in a high quality water filter for your drinking water.
  2. Water testing to ensure the water dispensed from your filter is free from lead and other common contaminants.
